Russia hopes that a report which will be presented by the special delegation of PACE about positions of Russia and Georgia in regard to the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict during the autumn session of PACE will be objective.
On September 23, Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the Russian delegation to PACE, the chairman of the State Duma Committee for International Affairs (“United Russia”) declared after a meeting with the special delegation of PACE with the chairman of the Russian State Duma Boris Gryzlov: “We hope that a final report of this group will be objective”, informs a REGNUM correspondent. “It is simply impossible to ignore those facts which were already heard by the group in Moscow and, I am sure, they are going to hear them in Tskhinval, these facts talk for themselves,” said the member of the State Duma.
Kosachev also underlined, that for the Russian side the route of special delegation of PACE never was a principle question. “We have offered an effective, from our point of view, variant of route, without politics in order to create a possibility for the group to work for the whole time they are spending here in the most effective way,” said Kosachev. “And from this point of view, an optimal route was certainly a route Moscow -Vladikavkaz — Tskhinval –Tbilisi, as far as PACE decided to start from Moscow,” underscored the member of the parliament.
”Sadly, the assembly leadership preferred to politicize this situation, in my opinion the route is very uncomfortable and very strange: through Munich, then in Tskhinval from Tbilisi, then again to Tbilisi, and thereon the delegation simply muddle away considerable part of their time,” said Kosachev.
“They will not see much from what they could have seen, they will not hear much from what they could have heard,” he added. “I cannot judge if it was done on purpose or not, but the only thing I can is to express regret," stressed Kosachev.
“We expected the maximally effective work of this group, and the route which was finally agreed is also acceptable for us. The most important is that the delegation will visit South Ossetia, will visit Tskhinval and will hear the whole truth about that, how it all began, how proceeded and completed, from the people who are victims of this tragedy,” declared the head of the Russian delegation to PACE.
The autumn session of PACE will take place from September 29 to October 3.
