The Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, 120 official delegations from foreign countries, and more than 1000 representatives of Russian and foreign business will attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum
The program will be split into two parts. The first part - International Day - will begin on June 7. It will involve discussion of the most pressing problems facing the global economy today. "The modern state of the world economy poses two major challenges: the globalization of markets and the protection of national economic interests," said the head of Sberbank, German Gref.
Among the events deserving attention at the forum today is the presentation of the St. Petersburg Commodities and Raw Materials Exchange. According to the director of the Federal Service for Financial Markets, Vladimir Milovidov, "the exchange will become a very important mechanism for forming transparent and understandable prices".
The second day - June 8 – is Russian Day. The day's main events include a discussion of the development strategy for the Russian economy until 2020 and the president's four I's concept - investment in human capital, innovation, infrastructure, and transparency and efficiency of public institutions. Unlike last year, the forum will devote attention to small business. Roundtable participants will discuss the challenges of improving business investment activity.
In addition to plenary meetings and roundtables, a number of investment agreements will be concluded at the forum. Evgeny Fyodorov, the head of the Duma committee on economic policy, said that investment agreements worth 630 trillion rubles ($26.5 trillion) will be signed at the forum.
