While joining any security system, countries must take into account interests of regional stability and security, Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan announced at a news conference on January 9 commenting on the referendum in Georgia about its joining NATO.
As a REGNUM correspondent reports, according to the foreign minister, settlement of the issue of its own security is a sovereign right of Georgia and its people, and the Armenian side sees no problems in the issue. However, Armenia and Georgia have common interests and problems of how to rule out dividing lines appearing in the area. “If Armenia and Georgia are seeking membership in this or that security system, their main goal is to strengthen security of the country and the region, so, simultaneously with implementing the procedures of joining, the countries need to take into account regional interests,” – the Armenian foreign minister stressed. In this connection, noted he, the dialog with Georgia on the issue is at the highest level, and in case of some development the sides will be able to prevent from new dividing lines appearing through a political dialog.
