Expert Siberia magazine has held a conference on Siberia’s largest companies dedicated to the problems of the region’s 400 largest companies
In the Russian economy, despite the recently outlined course of constructing large state corporations and state companies purchasing individual businesses, the share of private business, nevertheless, continues to grow, increasing its impact on the country’s economy and regions. However, the impact and effect of the activities of these companies could be much better if it were possible to build a normal mechanism for a state-private partnership. The problems and ways of building such a mechanism became one of the central topics of discussion at the conference, which was attended by representatives of regional governments and businesses.
The reason and analytical base for organizing the event was the annual rating of the 400 largest companies in Siberia, prepared by the analytical service of Expert Siberia magazine. The magazine is publishing the rating of the largest companies for the fifth year.
The conference is the magazine’s first experience of organizing such a large-scale event. It was a communication platform for the heads of the Siberian region’s largest companies and businesses, representatives of regional governments, and leaders and representatives of Russian and foreign investment companies.
The plenary sessions and roundtables brought together Siberian regional government representatives, managers, businessmen and academics.
As part of the conference roundtables were held on the topics “State-private partnership as a prospect for developing Siberian industry” and “The energy cluster of the regional economy: a search for balance”. In the course of the round table dedicated to a state and business partnership, it became clear that a state-private partnership (SPP) remains the prerogative of Moscow’s major corporations. Representatives of regional business do not receive adequate support from the state, and the regional instruments of an SPP are still under development.
In the future, such conferences should be annual. The aim of the magazine is to create a permanent platform for communication and exchange of views between regional government and business. The most important task facing the magazine is not only to discuss the role of the Siberian region’s economy in the economy of Russia, but also, jointly with representatives of government and businesses, to formulate a consolidated position of regional business for lobbying at the federal level.
