Russia and Poland have agreed to resume imports of livestock products from Poland to Russia. The decision was made today, on December 12, at a meeting of agriculture ministers of the two countries, Alexei Gordeyev (Russia) and Marek Sawicki (Poland), a REGNUM correspondent informs.
As the Russian agriculture minister announced after the talks, next week, Russian and Polish chief sanitary inspectors are to sign a memorandum on lifting limitations for imports of the Polish meat into Russia. As Gordeyev said, high-quality livestock products will be sent to Russia. At the same time, he ruled out that meat could be brought to Russia from third countries. Gordeyev added that customs check-points were already determined and veterinary services of the two countries elaborated a mechanism for controlling quality of imported Polish meat.
Not all limitations are lifted regarding products from Poland. For instance, as the Russian minister said, Russia limited imports of poultry, as avian flu pestholes were found in Poland. Besides, import of livestock feed containing fish flour is banned.
The Polish minister noted that any amounts of livestock products imports do matter, so he was enthusiastic about the news on lifting the ban.
Gordeyev announced that EU member-countries failed to fill their quotas for selling pork to Russia (in 2007, the quota is 100,000 tons).
