The government is assigning 1 billion rubles to supporting purchases of the kinds of foods on which prices have recently risen, reported Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin. “These purchases will be from Russian and importing suppliers,” reported Kudrin to journalists in a briefing following a government meeting on Thursday.
He noted that this will be a fully market-based measure. “Besides this, we are also examining other measures, of six months and a year, in order to avert a similar situation in spring and autumn of next year,” said Kudrin. He stressed that at the moment Moscow, for example, is buying about 70% imported food.
