The second reactor of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant will be stopped today in accordance with a planned repair for about a month and a half. As REGNUM was told at Lietuvos Energija Company today, the second reactor will be stopped on August 18. During the repair, Lithuania will produce 37% of the electric power for its needs on its own, the rest 63% will be purchased from Russia, Estonian and Scandinavian countries.
It is worth mentioning, now a project of constructing a new reactor at the Ignalina NPP is underway. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland will participate in the project. Probably, two new reactors will be constructed in Lithuania at once. However, according to expert estimations, a new energy reactor can appear only in 2015. At the same time, under resolution of the European Union, in 2009, Lithuania is to stop its last, the second reactor of the Ignalina NPP.
